People picking up or wishing to purchase medication (Heartworm, Flea & Tick) do not need to make an appointment.
DEAR would like to remind all owners that N.C. State law requires all dogs and cats, once they reach the age of 4 months be vaccinated for rabies and to wear rabies tags at all times. Regardless of dog's or cat's age, first vaccination is good for one year only. All subsequent vaccinations thereafter are good for 3 years. If you have a question concerning our rabies clinics, adoptions, fund raisers, donations, or the DEAR dog house, please contact Down East Animal Refuge at (252) 826-0336 or emailing us at
