Dorothy McLennan is a professional portrait painter who works in the classical tradition. She holds a BA in English Literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She returned to school and earned a BFA from East Carolina University School of Art. This provided an excellent academic foundation for her portraiture which has been enriched through continuing study with some of today's finest portrait artists, such as Daniel Greene, Michael del Priore, John de la Vega and Margaret Carter Baumgaertner. She is an active member of the Portrait Society of America. Dorothy resides in the countryside near Scotland Neck.
Dorothy strives to capture the personality of her subject with light and shadow while maintaining freshness and spontaneity in her work. Each portrait is done with consideration for the clients' tastes and ideas. The final goal is to celebrate a special time in an individual's life and to create not just a painting, but a work of art.
