DEAR Receives Donation from Friends of NCVMA Foundation

SCOTLAND NECK NC – (APR 5) – Down East Animal Refuge (DEAR) recently accepted a $500 donation from Dr. Marty Edwards, Vet Mobile, on behalf of The Friends of North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association (NCVMA) Foundation, Raleigh NC.

The $500 donation, was secured by the recommendations and efforts of Claire Holly, Executive Director of the NCVMA, and Dr. Marty Edwards. Dr. Edwards has been coming to Scotland Neck for several years to conduct rabies and wellness clinics. Dr. Edwards, lives in Cary, NC,. and coming to Scotland Neck, is not, right around the corner for her.  She does it, because, she cares about the community, and the pet owners here.

“This donation was presented to DEAR,” said Dr. Laura Gaylord, DVM, and President of Friends of the NCVMA Foundation, “to assist in your local efforts to help animals in need.”

The donation was presented to DEAR President, Randall C. Melton, on behalf of the members and volunteers of Down East Animal Refuge. “I gladly accept this donation for all our animals in our facility and in foster care. We plan on using this donation to fund our micro chipping clinic planned for this summer.”

DEAR has been serving the community since 2003 with efforts in pet re-homing, rabies & wellness clinics, animal rescues, and prison programs. DEAR is always looking for volunteers and community assistance. If you would like to help DEAR with your time or donations, please contact them at (252) 826-3965, or information@downeastanimalrefuge.org. DEAR also holds monthly meetings on the second Thursday of each month, 7:00 pm, at the Scotland Neck Memorial Library. The public is invited to attend and participate.
