Dogs of DEAR
These are all our dogs in residence at our Scotland Neck animal facility. Some are just waiting for you to give them the wonderful home they need. Some others, as noted below their picture, will take a little special care in order to be ready for re-homing. This is indicated by the the words "special needs". Others are "re-homing ready". Those dogs with no availability listed under their name are currently not available for rehoming. Just click a link below the photo to see more about each dog. The full rehoming listing can be viewed by going directly to Petfinder. Our Petfinder listing also includes all dogs and puppies currently in foster care and are not listed on this page. DEAR would like to remind all people considering re-homing that it is a long term commitment.
All of our adoptable dogs are:
- Spayed/neutered
- Heart worm negative
- Up to date on all vaccines
- On heart worm prevention
- On flea/insect protection
- Can be microchipped for their safety upon request

The rehoming guidelines and application are available for download at on our rehoming page.
Our dogs that are available for re-homing now appear on both 1-800-Save-A-Pet.com and Petfinder.com websites. To see our dogs that are ready for re-homing, click on the links below. These links will take you to a search screen where you will need to type in a searchable zip code. That zip code is 27874. The next screen will then show all available dogs within that zip code that are available for re-homing. You then can look at each individual dog for additional details. You will need to return to our re-homing page once you have found the dog you would like to re-home.
You will need to view, print, and fill out a copy of our Rehoming application in order to show interest in re-homing an animal at DEAR. You can complete the application and return either by fax or email. All formats of the application are accepted. We do, however, need you to sign the application and return. NEW - DEAR is also requesting photos from those who have re-homed pets. Please forward digital or scanned images to information@downeastanimalrefuge.org. Please also enclose any appropriate information regarding how the pet is working out for you, how long the pet has been with you, and anything the animal has learned since beiong rehomed.
