2010 Down East Animal Refuge Luminaria and Stew Fundraiser

Down East Animal Refuge will be holding a Luminaria and Stew Sale, Saturday, November 20, 2010, time to be determined, Grasunan Pond, Scotland Neck NC. The In Honor luminaria (see pictures below) will be red and the In Memory of luminaria will be white. Cost per Luminaria is a $5.00 donation. One pet listed per luminaria. You can get as many luminaria as you like. We are currently only limited to 200 luminaria around the pond (see pictures). The bags will be weighed down and lit by an electric light. Luminaria will be lit beginning at sunset. This is the weekend BEFORE Thanksgiving.

While we view this season, as a time to be Thankful for all we have, family, friends, loved ones, don't forget that there is someone in your family that is very thankful to be a part of your life,.   That is your pet.  Every time they get a pat on the head, a scratch on the back, a little walk around the block, each night they hunker down with a full stomach and a safe place to sleep,  your pet, is very thankful that he or she, has a home, and is not like so many in the world.  Those who have no family, no home, and no safe place to rest their head.

Your pet is very thankful.  However, being a pet, he or she is unable to buy you a card, send you flowers. All they can do, is love you back.  Take this chance to give a voice to your pet.

To support all the pets that are not as fortunate as yours, DEAR is sponsoring “ I am Thankful " pet luminaries. All luminaries will be inscribed  with I am thankful to owner's name and will include the name of your pet.  This can certainly apply to current pets, or those that are no longer with us. You can also buy luminaria and tell the world how much you are thankful for your own pet.  Those will have your name and the name of the pet you are thankful for.  Again, it doesn’t have to be a dog. It can be a cat, an iguana, whatever you have that you are thankful to have.

Luminaria will be displayed during the weekend before Thanksgiving, at the pond in front of Grasunan farm.  Luminaria will be lit at dusk on Saturday, Nov 20. Come by, view the amazing sight, find your pet's thank you,  and feel good that you are doing something to help those pets who still don't have a forever home. If your pet could talk, they would tell you, "It is the right thing to do".

In conjunction with the luminaria, DEAR members will be selling quarts of Brunswick stew on the premises.  Join local pet lovers and help support a good community cause.  The stew is homemade and is at $7.00 per quart. We will gladly accept advance orders for the stew on October 1. On mail and PayPal orders, please indicate how many quarts you would like.
